The voices of low-Italian Matteo Andrea Mollica and Georgian Givi Gigineishvili will go up to the stage the role of the doctor Dulcamara in the opera L’elisir d’amore, which will be represented this week -Thursday – Sunday in the Auditorium of Tenerife. Dulcamara is the trickster who sells a love potion to Nemorino to get the love of Adina, when in reality such a potion is simply wine. Mollica and Gigineishvili, members of Opera (e)Studio, participating in this co-production of Ópera de Tenerife, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre, which this year features with funding from the Creative Europe programme of the European Commission.

The Georgian starts his singing career at the age of 15 in schools of music Batumi, his native city, and later at the Youth Music Theatre, and the State Conservatory of Tbilisi V. Sarajishvili, currently a resident artist at the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre, the stage in which already participated two years ago in L’elisir d’amore. “I love this title, but above all, it is very interesting to work the character of woody nightshade”.

Mollica, who will Dulcamara in the functions of the Friday and Sunday, he began his singing studies at the Università di Torino and at the Conservatory Giuseppe Verdi of the same city. It’s your first time on the island, but it does have references of the Opera productions of Tenerife, and of the academy of high specialization for artists, Opera (e)Studio, by means of their teachers and colleagues. “I think it is a great opportunity for the young artists,” says the Italian to his participation in the seventh edition of Opera (e)Studio, and highlights, above all, the training programme of “very high level” divided into a month of training in their general and, on the other hand, a month of work of real production.

With regard to the role of Dulcamara, the Italian what it represents for the first time, to be your top concern that the character falls into the ridiculous”, while the Georgian-explains his role in the functions of the Thursday and Saturday, “it requires a lot of energy: talks a lot, the text is very hard and fast.” It highlights that the singer “needs a good preparation to interpret this role. Therefore, you also need a good game on the stage, and a great energy to show all the details.”

In terms of future projects, both singers are focused right now on making the most of his experience in Opera (e)Studio and in L’elisir d’amore, but want to continue to evolve to other characters. Givi Gigineishvili recognizes that “every character is interesting to me… but I would like to bring to the stage the role of Philip II in the opera Don Carlo de Verdi”. Matteo Andrea Mollica is more blunt in his response: “My favorite role, my personal favourite, my favourite composer: Ezio in Attila Verdi”.

L’elisir d’amore constitutes the beginning of the season 2019-2020 with the musical direction of Antonio Méndez, principal conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife. This new production of the Opera de Tenerife, which is performed together with the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre, is sponsored by the European Commission within the Creative Europe programme, and assumed the debut in Europe as the stage director Pablo Maritano, who takes us back to the golden age of film in Hollywood. All topped with the scenery of Serene Rocco, the costume of Lorena Marin and the light design of Virginio Levrio.
