Tryouts will begin Monday in Bologna and will continue in Tbilisi, Madrid and Tenerife

A total of 181 young artists from 33 nationalities have signed up to participate in the seventh edition of Opera (e)Studio. This amount represents an increase of 50 percent compared to the last meeting. Auditions will begin this Monday [día 4] in Bologna, will continue in Tbilisi and Madrid, to finish the 16 of February at the Auditorium of Tenerife.

In the call for this year -sponsored by the European Commission under the Creative Europe programme-the singers selected in the project led by Ópera de Tenerife, in partnership with the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre will perform L’elisir d’amore de Donizetti. artists will be able to choose more than one role, distributed as follows: Adina and Gianetta, for sopranos; Nemorino, for tenors; Belcore, for baritones, and Bittersweet, for baritone or low.

More than half of the enrollees have signed up to perform auditions in the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, which have been distributed in three days. The tests in the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre (Georgia) will be the days 8 and 9, to follow in the Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid at the beginning of the day 11 and will end on the 16th day in the Auditorium of Tenerife. All these tests will be supervised by the artistic director of Opera (e)Studio, Giulio Zappa.

Artists enrolled from 33 countries of Latin America, Europe and Asia. Italy, with 66 applicants, is that the largest contribution, followed by Spain, with 29, and Georgia with 16. The singers chosen to be on the island at the beginning of September in order to receive a professional training and comprehensive of all the disciplines that encompasses the genre of opera, from the musical aspects to the stage. Also, in addition to the training of music, Opera (e)Studio pays special attention to the preparation of performance and body of the singer.

The opera L’elisir d’amore will kick off the next season of tenerife, in October, with four performances at the Symphony Hall of the Auditorio de Tenerife. Later, in 2020, will be staged at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre. This proposal of Ópera de Tenerife will be the musical direction of Antonio Méndez, principal conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, Tenerife and Bologna; and Zaza Azmaiparashvii, principal conductor of the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre, in Georgia. The scenery will be borne by the stage director Pablo Maritano.
