Of the three great comic operas of the repertoire belcantista (Il barbiere di Siviglia, L’elisir d’amore and Don Pasquale), the last two are signed by the same hand: Gaetano Donizetti. Between L’elisir d’amore and Don Pasquale takes more than a decade in the NINETEENTH century no less agitated than the XX in terms of revolutions, political and artistic. So, Don Pasquale comes almost to be the last opera of a genre, the ‘opera buffa’, that is going to be replaced in the public’s preference for the tragedies or dramas with highest aspirations. Suffice it to recall that Wagner premiered in Dresden Dutch wandering one day before Donizetti estrenase his Don Pasquale in Paris. The emergence of the romantic drama in the land of the opera is going to be terminated by the idea hedonistic of this show as mere entertainment or social event. However, at the beginning of January, 1843 could still enjoy without moral concerns, ideology or of a pleasant musical evening in the company of excellent actors and singers. Don Pasquale, tells us of the plot between the young and smiling Norina and her beloved Ernesto, to get the uncle of this, Don Pasquale, leaving their hopes of marriage.
